Melissa
wanted a photograph
of pears.
She loves the look and feel of pears.
I do not know
if she likes to eat them.
She has enough of this fruit already.
They adorn her walls and sit
on table tops.
I did not ask why she needed more.
But she asked me
for a photograph of pears
and I obliged.
A friend never says no.
Or at least I would not say not to Melissa.
Ergo,
I made her a photograph of pears.
Within my frame I gave her five pears.
And
(going out on a limb)
I added a potato.

Thus began this series of photographs
in the winter of 2019 in the study on the third floor of my Pittsburgh home
where
the light is nice
and
flora and fauna are mostly
compliant upon my
stage.
